From struggle to serenity

Approaching my 40th birthday in 2013, I spent every day in a series of struggles. I was 100 pounds overweight, and each day I fought against my cravings for sugar and junk food. I had failed in more than one career. I'd been through one divorce and was afraid I was headed for another. My one source of comfort was in my motherhood, but I saw an empty nest looming before me.

My grandmother had always told me to enjoy my life, and when she died at age 95, I set out on a mission to honor her legacy.

Gaining radical self-acceptance

My grandmother wanted me to enjoy my life, so I started working through self-help programs. Slowly, I began to feel happier and shift my mindset from my struggles to my joys. Then, when I found intermittent fasting, everything finally fell into place. My husband Ryan started fasting as well. Together we are down 220 pounds and our marriage has never been stronger. We even wrote a motivational memoir about our experiences called Unbelievable Freedom: How We Transformed our Health and Happiness with Intermittent Fasting

My feelings of struggle and failure are nothing more than a memory. Through self-improvement and intermittent fasting, I systematically built a life that I truly love. Today, I think of myself as the poster girl for contentment.
